Manhattan G.O.P. Leader Gets the Call, Sees a ‘Tough Sell’ for Bloomberg

Later in today’s round of calls, Rudy Giuliani phoned Jennifer Saul, the Republican county leader in Manhattan, in the hopes of convincing her to let Michael Bloomberg run in the G.O.P. primary.

The conversation was, she said, “Fine, fine. We just chatted a bit.” She described it as a “brief conversation.”

Her constituency—Manhattan Republicans—tends to gravitate toward the Upper East SideBloomberg territory.

But Saul isn’t necessarily more amenable than any of the other county chairs to the idea of letting Bloomberg into the primary.

Saul said she’s reserving her decision until she and other county leaders meet with Bloomberg on Wednesday morning, and consult with their respective county organizations and district leaders. Saul said among her people, letting Bloomberg into the primary would be “a tough sell.”
