Mitchell, Ulrich, Ferreras

Ken Mitchell edged out Debi Rose by just 34 votes in the special election tonight on Staten Island, according to the unofficial results from the city’s Board of Elections, which said Mitchell got 4,130 votes, compared to Rose, who got 4,096.
Mitchell was the former chief of staff to City Councilman Michael McMahon, who vacated the seat when he was elected to congress last year. Rose, who runs a local drop-out prevention program, was supported by a number of labor groups, and would have been the first person of color elected to office from that borough.
The entire race was conducted using paper ballots, since there wasn’t enough time to reprint the ballots after a judge reinstated one candidate, John Tabacco, yesterday.
