While campaigning for City Council candidate Julissa Ferreras at a senior center in Corona, Bill Thompson fielded a few questions about his own candidacy.
“I’m definitely running for mayor,” Thompson told the first table of seniors he approached, who smiled at the news. “We need a change in City Hall,” he said.
Later, an older man said to Thompson, “Maybe you can get Obama to speak with you.”
Thompson smiled and said if Obama got involved at all, it would probably be for whomever won the Democratic primary.
“Who knows? I have no idea. Does the president come in for the Democratic nominee? Who knows?” he said to me afterward.
Two of Obama’s political consultants, Bill Knapp and Josh Isay, have worked on Michael Bloomberg’s campaigns before.
Thompson was also asked by a senior at the event if Hillary Clinton would be involved in his campaign.
“With [her being] secretary of state, she’s not going to get involved,” Thompson said.
