Wilson won’t run for mayor, will support Redd

Camden City Councilman Gilbert “Whip” Wilson won’t run for Mayor this year and will back Dana Redd, a State Senator and City Councilwoman, for the post. Wilson lost a bid to unseat incumbent Gwendolyn Faison in 2005.

South Jersey Democratic sources expect that the 82-year-old Faison will not seek re-election to the post she’s held since Mayor Milton Milan was ousted following his criminal conviction. There is speculation that Redd will assembly a unity ticket for the June Democratic primary, where she is nearly certain to be the candidate of the Camden County Democratic organization.
