One of Leslie Crocker Snyder’s likely opponents in the Manhattan District Attorney’s race, Richard Aborn, is seizing on her newly clarified opposition to the death penalty.
“Richard Aborn welcomes Judge Snyder’s conversion – even if it is an election-year conversion – to the cause of ensuring that the death penalty is never again sought by a district attorney in New York State. Administration of the death penalty is contrary to our values as New Yorkers, and has no law enforcement value,” said Aborn campaign spokeswoman Anna Deknatel of the public relations firm BerlinRosen.
In an interview, Snyder said she dropped her support of the death penalty after the 2005 race, citing convictions of criminals in New York City and Westchester that were recently overturned.
