At a press conference this morning to demonstrate how garbage will be shipped out of Brooklyn by train, rather than by truck, Michael Bloomberg was asked if there was now added pressure to build the Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel.
It’s a project that, as Matt Schuerman wrote in 2007, “was something Mayor Bloomberg first supported, then opposed, and now wants to talk about.”
Today, Bloomberg said, “The Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel is a big problem because tunnels in this day and age are very big problems for security. Bridges are not. Tunnels are.”
Bloomberg went on to say, “It also is a lot of money,” but that “down the road, it’s not the world’s worst idea.”
