Budget Grew by $10 Billion Over Initial Proposal, Skelos Says It’s an Outrage

ALBANY—The governor’s budget office has released official details of the $131.8 billion state budget.
Yes, $131.8 billion, the total number, is over $10 billion more than the size of the budget David Paterson first proposed in December. (The number is in the seventh paragraph of the official press release.)
The additional $10 billion dollars comes from an infusion of about $6 billion from the federal stimulus package and from a personal income tax assessment.
The administration says that even this bigger-than-originally-proposed budget will bridge the expected deficit for 2009-2010, which is estimated at $17.7 billion.
Needless to say, the opposition feels that there’s plenty here to criticize.
