Former U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie easily won the endorsement of the Bergen County Republican organization tonight, defeating former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan by a 78%-22% margin at the party's nominating convention. Christie won 615-172, with Assemblyman Rick Merkt (R-Mendham) receiving 4 votes.
Lonegan announced two weeks ago that he would no longer compete for organization endorsements, and sought to have his name removed from the Bergen convention ballot without success.
