Nochimson will exit race for Passaic Clerk

Ronni Nochimson will drop her bid for Passaic County Clerk, a position she held for ten years before losing re-election in 2009. Nochimson, who was a Republican until three years ago, had sought the endorsement of the Passaic County Democratic organization, but lost an executive committee vote to Woodland Park Council President Keith Kazmark on Saturday. She committed to backing the winner of that vote, and a Nochimson supporter says she will honor that pledge.

Nochimson lost her bid for a third term to Democrat Karen Brown five years ago. She later found employment in the office of the Democratic Sheriff, Gerald Speziale, and switched parties in 2006. Nochimson and Kazmark were considering challenges to the incumbent until Brown announced she would not seek re-election. Kazmark, who was in high school when Nochimson was elected County Clerk, is now the strong favorite to win the post.
