A Republican who opposes the re-election of Gloucester County GOP Chair Loran Oglesby is alleging that gubernatorial candidate Steve Lonegan paid for her to attend the "Defending the American Dream Summit" in Washington, D.C. last October. The conference was sponsored by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation; Lonegan is the AFP State Director in New Jersey.
"In October of last year Loran Oglesby went to the as Steve Lonegan's guest. When she returned she bragged to everyone who would listen about what a nice hotel it was that Lonegan paid for," said Phyllis Scapellato, a former GOP Freeholder candidate who is leading the movement to dump Oglesby as party leader. Scapellato says Oglesby's "free junket" could be a conflict as she decides which candidate to place on the organization line this June. Lonegan's campaign said yesterday that they will not compete for formal party endorsements, though they would likely accept one if offered.
