VSL:WEB // These words desperately need your help

Save the Words is an online Ouija board that brings dead nouns, verbs, and adjectives to life.

Each of the words you’ll find here was once a living, breathing part of our language. Roll your cursor over it, and it’ll cry out: “Over here!” or “Yo! Pick me!” Click, and you’ll see a succinct definition, an example sentence, and an invitation to use the word you’ve picked in your everyday conversation and correspondence. Some words are especially challenging: Good luck to anyone who chooses urette (it means “dried animal urine absorbed into chalky soil”). Others, like boreism (“behavior of a boring person”), are so utible (“useful”) you’ll wonder why they went away in the first place.
