With a debut that delivers recession-era cheek and Prince-meets-Hot Chip soul beats, LA indie-rockers Fol Chen also has a knack for the visual. Their video for “The Believers” makes for good listening, and watching.

The animated collage of beheaded vintage paper dolls and inked-in machinery is dark and beautiful before a backdrop of fiery pink. Paired with a creaky bass line and low rumbling vocals, the video evokes a terrible assembly line of human thought and misdirection. For an (only slightly) lighter side of Fol Chen, check out videos for “Cable TV” and “No Wedding Cake.”
