With advertising revenue in freefall and hiring freezes creeping through the TV news industry, it’s not everyday that we hear of a network actually adding a staffer. But on Tuesday, we heard of three new hires.
The hiring boomlet made for an unusually cheerful day in NYTV’s inbox.
To wit: Over at the Time Warner Center, CNN executives announced that they had hired veteran TV producer (and creator of the now defunct Topic [A] with Tina Brown)Kathy O’Hearn to serve as the Executive Producer for Christiane Amanpour’s forthcoming half-hour show on CNN International, which is set to launch in September.
Ms. O’Hearn returns to CNN after several years at ABC News, where she worked on This Week with George Stephanopoulos and on ABC’s 2008 campaign coverage.
Over at CBS News, sports and news chief Sean McManus announced that Jennifer Ashton has joined the network as a medical correspondent.
According to the press release, Ms. Ashton will continue practicing medicine at the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, N.J., and at her private medical practice, Hygeia Gynecology.
“In just two months, Carlos Watson has leap-frogged within the ranks at MSNBC from on-air guest to contributor to political analyst to co-anchoring the daytime news with Contessa Brewer,” The New York Daily News wrote of Mr. Watson back in February. “Now, the 39-year-old Harvard graduate, who was once labeled a problem child, is inching up to the edge of political punditry, ready to lead the Obama generation into a new era of information.”
According to the press release, People once named Mr. Watson a “Hottest Bachelor.”
