Investigating the Caroline Kennedy Leak, Maybe, Eventually

Here’s the letter three Albany watchdog groups sent to the Committee on Public Integrity asking for an investigation into the leaks from the governor’s office about Caroline Kennedy. (According to The Times, the committee has been reviewing the request for two months.)

When Kennedy withdrew from the Senate race, information from Paterson’s office started leaking to reporters insinuating that there may have been some problems in Kennedy’s background that could have made her selection problematic. The New York Times, in particular, played the rumors really, really big.

The governor later said publicly that the leaked information was not true, but he declined to investigate how such information (which Kennedy provided to Paterson’s office as part of the vetting process) wound up in reporters’ hands. Investigating the Caroline Kennedy Leak, Maybe, Eventually
