Protesters, Non-Rural Democrats Coming to Democratic Rural Conference

ALBANY—All of New York’s Democratic elected officials will be gathering, or at least stopping in, at the Democratic Rural Conference being held this weekend at theGideon Putnam hotel. The crowd includes many definite and potential candidates for statewide office.
The schedule is below. Of particular note are David Paterson and Andrew Cuomo, whose campaign committees will both host receptions tonight, and Representative Steve Israel, who represents a district that is far from rural but who will speak at a Saturday luncheon with Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith.
“The state is being looked at more and more as one state,” State Senator Darrel Aubertine, a Democrat who also works on his family farm, told me by phone.
