Yassky Campaign Seeks Financial Info on Melinda Katz

An aide on David Yassky’s city comptroller campaign requested from the city’s Conflict of Interest Board financial information on one of his opponents, City Councilwoman Melinda Katz.

When requests like these are made, the person who is the subject of the inquiry is notified. A copy of the notification sent to Katz was forwarded to me. The person who is requesting the information is named Connor Osetek.

The form asks for the “person or organization on whose behalf you are obtaining this report. Osetek wrote, “David Yassky for New York City Comptroller.”

There’s nothing wrong or improper about requesting publicly available information on an opponent. But it’s not every day that the oppo-research efforts of a campaign are so easily traceable.

Yassky didn’t immediately return a call for comment. Yassky Campaign Seeks Financial Info on Melinda Katz
