An Urban Elephant Only Wants Bloomberg’s Support If Bloomberg Means It

I emailed Republican borough president candidate Robert Hornak to ask for his thoughts on Michael Bloomberg's non-endorsement of him, or any others, local Republican candidates, at a party event in Queens.

I got a response from an associate of his, Jay Golub, who, along with Hornak, runs the Urban Elephants web site.

Asked whether he was disappointed that Bloomberg didn’t endorse anyone at the event, Golub wrote:

"No. No because the mayor, over the last 8 years, has endorsed candidates reluctantly—from both sides of the aisle. Besides, as you know, we are ideologues who are more concerned about issues than endorsements.

"If the Mayor is to endorse any of the candidates I am working with, it's important that he does so based upon the issues the candidates are supporting—not because we happen to be running on the same line."
