Last month, the Hubble Space Telescope captured images of one of the most amazing phenomena that NASA scientists have encountered: an incredibly bright gas jet blasting out from one of the largest black holes ever discovered.
Some astronomers believe that the glowing gas is intersecting a dust cloud that’s encircling the black hole. Others argue that the effect is caused by magnetic fields that emanate from the black hole, leading to explosions of energy. Either way, the cosmic fireworks display is a beautiful reminder of the immense forces our universe contains.
