Republican gubernatorial candidates Rick Merkt and Steve Lonegan both went after Christie on the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) during tonight’s debate.
When prodded by host Steve Malzberg about whether they would “kill” the program, Christie insisted on continuing to use the more moderate word he used throughout the campaign: he would “gut it.”
When Lonegan jumped on that, saying that Christie would not commit to ending the program for good, Christie responded “I’m using complicated verbiage for you again, Steve.”
Merkt also jumped on Christie’s response.
“If you gut a mackerel, you’ve killed it. But if you gut a house you can still live in it. So that’s a very wishy-washy term,” he said.
