What do Forrest Gump, Dirty Harry, Gordon Gekko, and Darth Vader have in common? All of them have been misquoted repeatedly, for years on end. Now AMC’s Filmsite is setting the record straight.
“Luke, I am your father” may be part of our common vernacular, but the actual line was “No, I am your father.” Humphrey Bogart never said the words “Play it again, Sam.” And “Greed is good” is a seriously abbreviated version of a much longer (and more interesting) quote. The list’s standards may be a bit too exacting — but the inclusion of sound files from the original films is a small stroke of genius: Hearing the original riffs is as much fun as picking at the errors in our collective consciousness.
