Kevin Parker’s Charge

ALBANY—State Senator Kevin Parker, facing a felony charge, was stripped of his leadership post and the stipend that accompanies it this weekend.
In a statement that came hours after Parker’s arrest in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, Majority Leader Malcolm Smith said the demotion was effective immediately until the “serious” charges against Parker are resolved.
An NYPD spokesman told me Parker was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, in connection with an incident involving a Post photographer Friday evening. If he is convicted of a felony, he will be unable to serve in the State Senate, where his vote is needed to maintain the Democrats ultra-slim majority.
