Protesters Arrested Inside City Hall

Nine Ten AIDS activists were arrested inside City Hall this afternoon for blocking the gate outside the mayor’s offices [a spokesperson for the group emailed later to change information she provided].

The mayor’s office had no comment on the incident and the NYPD did not immediately have any information. The nine people arrested were removed by police without resistance, I’m told.

The nine people were part of a protest outside City Hall organized by Housing Works, which asked, in a press release, “Is Mayor Bloomberg Stealing Money From Poor People With AIDS?”

The group alleges the mayor is not providing information for $1 billion it received stimulus money intended for Medicaid, while also cutting services to the AIDS community.
