Stringer Won’t Run for Senate

Scott Stringer, the Manhattan borough president who was planning to meet with supporters today to discuss a possible challenge to Kirsten Gillibrand next year, said he is not running.
This comes one day after Gillibrand began rolling out her supporters, and shortly after President Obama intervened to get Steve Israel out of the race.
Here’s a statement from Stringer, released by his consultants at Knickerbocker SKD:

“In light of President Obama’s clear desire to avoid a Democratic primary in New York State, I have decided to focus on my re-election race for Manhattan Borough President and to suspend my exploratory committee and fund-raising efforts for the 2010 Senate race.
