For the last day or so, City Council members have been looking over the list of member items they’ll be getting this year, and according to one member, they’ve been cut by as much as 20 percent compared to last year.
It’s an election year, and for elected officials, there’s an obvious imperative in delivering money to groups in their district.
The City Council is expected to vote on the list tomorrow. After the April 2008 slush fund scandal broke, Speaker Christine Quinn instituted a new rule that requires member-item allocations to be made public 24 hours before they’re voted on. So it shouldn’t be until late afternoon at least.
