It looks like Michael Bloomberg made the right move with his wood-worthy (if carefully phrased) denunciation of Charlie Rangel’s remarks about Barack Obama" class="company-link">Barack Obama being a potential police-shooting victim.
Rangel’s office just released a statement which was ostensibly a call for a federal “review” of white-on-black friendly fire in the NYPD, but which also contained an apology for his Obamas comment.
From Rangel’s office: 
“The tragic shooting of Officer Omar Edwards highlights the need for additional training of our police officers, and I am pleased that Commissioner Kelly recognizes a racial factor is involved.
“I am calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to review the problems in the New York City Police Department when black officers are killed by whites, which too often is the case.
