We’re guessing this weekend’s release of The Hangover will be an exercise in everyone finding and embracing their inner frat boy. Do not try and resist! The set-up—four dudes go to Vegas for a bachelor party that goes awry—could have easily devolved into clichéd territory. But, thankfully, there is no “Vegas, baby, Vegas” moment. Instead, the film’s funny action takes place after the debauchery, with the boys waking up to chickens and tigers and a baby-in-a-closet and missing teeth and no recollection of what the hell just happened. “Because we obviously had a great time” is how Bradley Cooper’s shady-cat character reasons away the memory loss. Really? The groom (Justin Bartha) is missing! So the gang (which includes Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis) must try to retrace their steps and, of course, hilarity ensues. Todd Phillips, who gave the world Old School back in 2003 (thank you!), is in the saddle with this one, directing from a well-paced script by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (much, much better than their last effort, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past). You might be embarrassed by laughing at some of the silliness, but don’t be: Everyone else will be cracking up, too.
