Michael Bloomberg announced this morning that Martin Horn, the commissioner for the departments of correction and probation, is leaving.

Horn accepted a job offer from John Jay College and will be a “distinguished lecturer” there starting in the fall 2009 semester, according to a public statement from Bloomberg.

Horn has been in the administration since its first day. Before that, he worked with Tom Ridge in Pennsylvania.

Bloomberg’s administration hasn’t had to deal with much in the way of turnover among its commissioners. But as David Chen noted last month, departures are becoming less unusual.

Bloomberg’s statement on Horn is over here.
