HANOVER – Chris Christie in his role as U.S. Attorney toppled the old regime of corrrupt politicians and developers in Marlboro, and former Marlboro Mayor Robert Kleinberg never forgot.

"He helped clean up my town," said Kleinberg, beaten by Mayor Jon Hornik in 2007. "To me, Chris, based on what he did as U.S. Attorney, is ready to take a stand without worrying about race or gender. He's going to atack the financial crisis."

The ballroom has filled to near capacity here at the Marriott. Tom Petty's "Running Down a Dream" keeps the crowd revved.
