WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) has been one of U.S. Chris Christie's harshest critics at today's hearing, but he apparently didn't realize the full extent of the event's political implications.
"I had no idea until today that you were running for governor," said Delahunt, who made his opening statment saying that Christie's assignment of a federal monitoring contract to John Ashcroft "reeked" before he found out.
The two spent a good amount of time during the hearing talking over each other, with Delahunt admonishing Christie to follow House rules.
Delahunt said that Christie's hiring of Ashcroft, his former boss,"really creates a problem of appearance."
New Jersey and Virginia are the only two states with gubernatorial races this year.
