On the Brian Lehrer Show this morning, Weiner compared Bloomberg’s exorbitant campaign spending with another high-profile, extensive advertising campaign that was not successful.

“You know, when they launched Vanilla Coke, I saw so many ads for it, I wanted to try it," Weiner said. "It was still crummy. So I think we have to be careful not to draw the conclusion about what New Yorkers want.”

Later in the interview, around the nine-minute mark, Weiner says he thinks Democratic mayoral candidate Bill Thompson, who he just endorsed, is good for the Jewish community.

Thompson “doesn’t try to craft a different message for the different corners of the city,” Weiner said. “I think there are a lot of people in the Jewish community, just like other communities, who have seen their taxes go up an enormous amount and not get a real good value for it."
