Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who had been advocating State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck) for Lt. Governor, is now predicting that Gov. Jon Corzine will choose former Reality TV star Randal Pinkett as his running mate.
"I have no inside information, but I think Jon Corzine is going to pick Randal Pinkett for lieutenant governor spot. Randal co-led my transition. Great guy," Booker said in a post on his Twitter page.
Many Democratic insiders viewed Booker's support for Weinberg as a safety net for his own gubernatorial aspirations. Weinberg would be 78 in 2013 and unlikely to run for Governor. The 37-year-old Pinkett could become the first African American to win a statewide election, and would suddenly be on the short list of '13 candidates for Governor — a list Booker wants to limit.
