The widely feared divorce lawyer who helped Mayor Bloomberg, Uma Thurman, Henry Kravis, Christie Brinkley, Tommy Mottola, Grace Hightower, James Gandolfini, Ivana Trump, Marla Maples and, of course, Swedish countess Marie Douglas-David leave their special someones has bought a nice comfy apartment with his wife.
According to a deed filed Thursday, attorney Robert S. Cohen and his wife, Stephanie J. Stiefel, paid $4.4 million for a co-op at the plush and prestigious co-op One Beekman Place.
They bought the new place from the late Liane Beebe Brent, whose first husband was Washington Post Company chairman Fritz Beebe. The Warburg listing says her seven-room apartment has a “gracious, old world elegance,” which means that the 38.5-foot-long living room has East River views and a fire place; a wet bar off of the gallery; and a pool, garden, gym and garage in the building. Still, it’s a more modest place than the $8.3 million apartment the couple sold on Fifth Avenue last year.
Mr. Cohen’s wife is a finance type, but she’s evidently picked up divorce tips from her husband: “You should talk about post-marriage finances with the same passion that you discuss what’s on the wedding ceremony menu,” she told Investor’s Business Daily in 2005.
