Greek-American Newspaper Endorses Bloomberg and His Deep Pockets

A Queens-based newspaper catering to the Greek community endorsed Michael Bloomberg for reelection, and addressed head-on one of the main criticisms raised by critiques.

Namely, that Bloomberg is spending so much money that the campaign is, basically, unfair. It’s a notion expressed by Democratic rival Bill Thompson, and the New York Times editorial board.

In their endorsement today, The National Herald wrote:

“Michael R. Bloomberg walked into Gracie Mansion as a billionaire many times over. Today he is deep into his second term as Mayor of the greatest city in the world, seeking a third term. He is able to do so not because of his billions, but because of his successful leadership during a difficult period in the history of our City. No end of TV commercials paid from his deep pockets could persuade savvy New Yorkers that it was right to set aside recently (though perhaps foolishly enacted) terms limits if Bloomberg were not doing an excellent job and if there were not the perception that there is nobody at this point who can step into his shoes.”
