Newly minted Dem could vote for Christie – because of Guadagno

ASBURY PARK – Before he changed parties and became a Democrat serving on the Marlboro Township Council with popular Mayor JonHornik, Councilman Jeffrey Cantor was ahard-charging GOP candidate for Monmouth County Freeholderrunning on a ticket with sheriff's candidate, Kim Guadagno.

In a telephone interview, "Kim is one of the best people I've had the pleasure of working with in politics and a consummate professional," said the councilman, an Iraq War veteran who's poised for redeployment to the Middle East.

Despite his party change after losing his 2007 freeholder race to John D'Amico, Cantor said he thinks so highly of Guadagno that he could envision himself voting for the ticket of GOP gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie over incumbent Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine.

"It certainly would make me look at the ticket," said Cantor, who attended Corzine's campaign rally in Holmdel four days ago with President Obama. "The presence of Kim Guadagno on that ticket certainly makes it very strong."
