ALBANY—The chairman of the Albany County Democratic Party said David Paterson could potentially be a liability for the ticket in 2010, if trends continue.
"I think right now the governor needs to get a clearer message out there," Dan McCoy told me by phone. "He could potentially end up being a liability, but I think right now he needs to find his groove, a little bit, and get his message out there."
McCoy last month hosted a luncheon for local partisans to talk to Andrew Cuomo, Paterson's strongest potential rival. (Cuomo said his only political plan, now, is to run for another term as attorney general.) I asked McCoy if he supports Paterson's bid for another term.
"It's a tough battle. We're supporting the governor," he replied. "He is our governor and we're going do what we can."
