Delegates from Republican county committees in Ocean, Burlington and Atlantic counties last nightpicked Long Beach Township Commissioner DiAnneGove to complete former Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt’s (R-Ocean) term ending in January, the AP reports.
Gove will replaceVan Pelton the fall election ballot.
Afreshman Republican legislator, Van Pelt resigned after federal law enforcement officials arrested him last month in a federal corruption sweep.
Van Pelt was one of two assemblymen busted in the sting that netted 29 public officials and political operatives. The other was Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith (D-Jersey City), who refuses to resign despite pressure from Democratic Party leaders.
