The third season of Mad Men will premiere on AMC on Sunday, August 16 and devoted viewers are planning theme parties to celebrate.
Tonight The Gates, a restaurant and lounge in Chelsea fittingly in the style of an early 1960s lounge, will host a Mad Men party with an open bar from 10 P.M. to 11 P.M.. The dress code is “Mad Men style- The 1960’s Newsroom” and music will be provided by Andrew Andrew.
Also starting tonight and lasting through Saturday, ads from the era will be projected on the facade of the MAD (Museum of Arts & Design) building at 2 Columbus Circle, including Sterling Cooper signature “campaigns” like Popsicle and Belle Jolie.
Then on Friday, when the Mets play the San Francisco Giants, Citi Field stadium will have section devoted to the show where fans will receive fedoras and be served Mad Men-inspired cocktails. Hic!
Then on Sunday, the Roosevelt Hotel’s Madison Club Lounge (the bar in the lobby) will host a viewing party for the premiere, with large flat-screen TVs. The hotel is featured in the first two seasons of the show as a favorite hang-out of the Sterling Cooper men. More period cocktails:The Tom Collins, Old Fashioned, Grasshopper, Mai Tai, Brandy Alexander and the simple dry martini and Scotch on the rocks! Sixties-style attire is encouraged and a prize will be awarded to the best “Suit and Skirt.”
The premiere will also be broadcast from the big screen in Times Square, weather permitting.
