Scozzafava’s Campaign Suspended

ALBANY—Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava is suspending her campaign for Congress due to a medical emergency.

Here's the statement from her spokesman, David Catalfamo:

Mr. William Scozzafava, father of Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, was admitted to Upstate Medical Center University Hospital with chest pains and is scheduled to undergo bypass surgery sometime today. Dede is en-route to the hospital to be with her father and any campaign related activities are on hold. Dede and her family appreciate the thoughts and prayers of so many during this difficult time.

Scozzafava is facing Democratic-candidate Bill Owens and Conservative Doug Hoffman in a bid to replace John McHugh, who is expected to resign his seat and become secretary of the Army.

A date for the election has not yet been set, but it is expected to fall on November 3.
