Representative Anthony Weiner endorsed James Wu in the crowded race for the City Council seat vacated by John Liu in Flushing.
It’s the second endorsement Weiner has made in a contested Council primary. Last week, he endorsed Robert Zuckerman in the crowded Democratic primary for the seat Bill de Blasio is vacating in Park Slope.
“He not only has the passion for service, but he has ambitious plans to improve services in our communities and the knowledge to implement them,” Weiner said in a public statement. “I wholeheartedly support him in his run to take his leadership to the next level and represent Flushing in the City Council.”
Also worth noting is that news of the endorsement was sent over by Wu’s consultants at Sheinkopf Communications, the same firm that is working on Michael Bloomberg’s reelection campaign, which successfully pushed Weiner out of this year’s mayor’s race.
Also running for seat in Flushing is John Choe, an aide to Liu who was endorsed by the Queens Democratic Organization; S.J. Jung, who is endorsed by the Working Families Party; and at least half a dozen other candidates.
