When we were at the Open during last year’s Republican convention, Anita Klaussen, the Obama-earrings-wearing wife of tennis commentator Bud Collins, was the only one in the media center watching Sarah Palin’s speech instead of the Williams vs. Williams quarterfinal. “Oh, Palin,” she moaned, recalling that night. “We were so scared.”
Last night, with Melanie Oudin playing Caroline Wozniacki, she was alone once more, watching Barack Obama’s speech on health care. But the tennis tempted her, too! She compromised with a dual-TV solution. “He’s doing really good!” she gushed. Oudin, less so.
