Michael Bloomberg is stepping further out of the rose garden, and is (again) attacking his under-funded, less-known Democratic opponent.
At an event in Manhattan today, Bloomberg took a swipe at Bill Thompson for not pushing to lift the cap on charter schools, as Bloomberg today proposed.
“[M]y opponent says he also supports charters,” Bloomberg said. “But in 2005 and 2006, when we led the fight to raise the state-imposed cap on charters, I will say he was awfully quiet. And when he talks about charters, he qualifies his commitment worrying that the charter schools could destabilize neighborhood schools and today I’m told that he came out against our plan to improve our schools and increase parent choice. And that’s the kind of politics that- as usual that I think isn’t new for him.”
