FOP releases endorsements

The New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) today announced its legislative endorsements,.

The list reads almost as an as-is list of legislators. Almost all are incumbents, with a couple notable exceptions. The group did not endorse anyone in District 12, where Caroline Casagrande (R-Colts Neck) and Delan O’Scanlon (R-Little Silver) are up for reelection. In District 31, they backed Democratic Assembly nominee Charles Mainor, a police detective, but not incumbent Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone (D-Bayonne), who earlier this month was indicted by state authorities on charges of official misconduct. They endorsed Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood), but not her running mate, Assemblyman Jerry Green (D-Plainfield).

The only challenger the group endorsed was Democrat Rebekah Conroy against Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-Morris Plains).

Most new Assembly members did not get group’s endorsement either. They passed on Nancy Munoz (R-Summit), who was recently sworn in to serve out the rest of the term of her late husband, Eric Munoz; and Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-Hackettstown), who won a special election to fill state Sen. Marcia Karrow’s (R-Raritan) old assembly seat. The group did back state Sen. James Beach (D-Voorhees).
