Juan Martin del Potro is just one set away from his first trip to a Grand Slam final, playing both hard and smart tennis to outplay Rafael Nadal and go up 6-2, 6-2. Nadal had five break points in the first two sets, but couldn’t convert on any of them. Del Potro, by comparison, broke Nadal four times, including the game that won him the second set.
UPDATE, 2:36 p.m.: Del Potro never let the pressure get to him and has sailed into the finals with an incredibly calm, assured (indeed, almost Federer-like) win, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. It’s the biggest win of Del Potro’s career, and perhaps the biggest loss of Nadal’s.
