There’s an Election Today

Remember when Barack Obama was going to permanently reinvigorate the electorate and usher in a new era of political participation?

Well, it’s Primary Day 2009 and all the papers are expecting a historic shrug. Campaign workers and volunteers are out in force. District Attorney candidate Cy Vance has apparently commandeered the city’s cabs. The campaign literature shenanigans continue up to the bitter end. The Daily News says history could be made…in one Bronx race. The Awl suggests an entire slate of candidates who are annoying enough to achieve things.

Steve Kornacki says there is suspense, and that we do have a mayor’s race: it’s just for 2013 and disguised as a race for public advocate.

So, if you’re not busy, or you’re bored, or you’re old, take outgoing D.A. Robert Morgenthau’s (borrowed) advice and “vote early and often.”
