Now this is what we call reality TV: Sundance Channel’s five-part documentary series Brick City is a fascinating and in-depth look at the immense challenges facing the city of Newark, N.J. , and its charismatic mayor, Cory A. Booker.
Created and directed by Mark Benjamin and Marc Levin (who were given incredible access), and executive-produced by Forest Whitaker, the series was filmed during the second year of Mayor Booker’s administration, and each one-hour episode is packed with drama as it explores the people that make up this city. Be sure not to miss the fourth and fifth episodes (“Circus,” airing 10/24 at 11:30 a.m., and “Red October,” on 10/25 at 9 p.m.); the fourth has the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus arriving in town for the first time in more than 50 years, and in the fifth, Newarkers turn out for a very historic Election Day.
