Don’t miss this provocative, Hitchcockian thriller

Are you looking for a movie with a bit of everything—love, sex, style, wit, thrills and mystery? Search no further than Pedro Almodóvar’s latest, Broken Embraces (in limited release 11/20).

The film is about a blind writer named Harry Caine (Lluís Homar), who is forced to remember the time of his life, when he was still known by his real name, Mateo Blanco; was directing his last movie; and was very much in love. The object of his affection is Almodóvar regular Penélope Cruz (as good and as gorgeous as ever), a wannabe actress and a mistress to a powerful man. It would be near impossible to explain all the twists and turns of this well-plotted and emotionally affecting film. Plus, we wouldn’t dream of spoiling the fun. But needless to say, it’s a must-see for the season, full of beautiful cinematography and with nods to Hitchcock and all our old noir favorites.
