ALBANY—Doug Hoffman’s campaign for Congress has crossed a new threshold: he’s now being attacked directly by Democrats.
The Democratic State Committee sent these mailers to households around the district, painting Hoffman as an outsourcer. Hoffman had been thought of as a spoiler in the race toward Bill Owens, the Democratic Party’s nominee, but with more conservatives from around the country rallying to his candidacy, he’s as much a contender (or more) as Republican Dede Scozzafava.
It’s interesting that the Democrats are now shifting their attacks toward Hoffman; some Democratic sources have told me that he’s now perceived as a bigger threat than Scozzafava, and internal polls, I’m told, show Scozzafava in last place at worst or in a three-way toss-up at best. A new poll by the Minuteman PAC shows Hoffman in the lead.
