The Express-Times has endorsed Republican Michael Doherty for State Senate in the 23rd district, saying that his “record of budget-cutting and advocating for limited government” will help the Legislature deal with “deficit spending that has gotten out of control.” Doherty defeated incumbent Marcia Karrow in the June primary, and now faces Democrat Harvey Baron in a November 3 special election. The winner will fill the remaining 26 months of the Senate seat Leonard Lance left vacant following his election to Congress.
The New Jersey State Association of Pipe Trades has endorsed Gov. Jon Corzine for a second term.
“Governor Corzine recognizes the important role the construction industry plays in New Jersey’s economy providing good, high-paying jobs for skilled workers,” said Jim Kehoe, the union president. “The Governor understands the real needs of working families and his commitment to the enforcement of our state’s Prevailing Wage law will ensure these investments result in quality construction performed by skilled craftsmen.”
Kehoe criticized Republican Christopher Christie for saying he would not accept federal stimulus money.
