Fidler Prepares for the Worst, Expensively

A number of Democrats have asked the Campaign Finance Board to release thousands of dollars in matching funds for what many consider to be easy general election campaigns.

Here’s the letter filed by one such incumbent, Lew Fidler. His opponent is a little-known and under-funded Republican who will not beat him.

Fidler said his opponent has gotten lots of local media attention and will ride Michael Bloomberg’s coattails, which, in this part of Brooklyn, are quite long.

“I have to be prepared for a race in which the Republican Mayoral candidate against gets a super majority in my district. Hence, I will have the unenviable task of bringing votes back to the Democratic line for the candidate at the very bottom of the list,” Fidler wrote.
