Guillotine Falls at Conde

So much for the idea that Conde Nast would be cutting budgets without shuttering any titles.  The Times MediaDecoder blog reports this morning that Conde will announce the closure of Gourmet, Cookie, and Modern Bride.

Gourmet seems like the surprise casualty here. It’s been published since 1940, and is (in the Times’ words) “a magazine of almost biblical status in the food world,” with a powerful editor, Ruth Reichl. Modern Bride, in contrast, was seen as an “offshoot” of Brides.

And Cookie (2005-2009): we hardly knew ye.

UPDATE: Chuck Townsend’s internal memo, from Mediaite. Add Elegant Bride to the list of the deceased. Guillotine Falls at Conde
